We were commissioned by a leading automotive company to produce a machine which would keep it one step ahead of increasingly stringent quality standards.

The company, a Tier-one supplier to the automotive market, needed to find a faster and more flexible method to inspect the millions of parts produced at its factory every year. The solution also needed to be able to cope with the large range of different parts being manufactured.

 

Solving the problem

 

the existing process

At the start of what turned out to be a lengthy development process, our engineers visited the site to inspect the existing process, identify exactly what the client was looking for and make an assessment of what the best solution would be.

 

fully programmable machine

The result is a fully programmable machine, capable of making five measurements and 15 inspections (both internal and external) down to micron-accuracy, in just one third of a second – and able to spot the faulty component every time.

 

immediately rejected

If a part does not meet the company’s exacting inspection criteria, then it is immediately rejected and the reason logged into a computer. Good components pass to an automated packer which counts and packs the parts into boxes.

 

The solution’s success

 

14 million parts

In the five months following installation, the machine has successfully processed 14 million parts and has quickly become the company’s main inspection tool due to its speed and accuracy.

We are continuing to work with the client to further develop the process which will improve the performance even further.
